My Writing

book-displayI have a Master’s degree in history and taught middle school for 15 years. I’m also the author of over 20 books and have more than 500,000 copies in print. My first children’s book, The Big Book of Boy Stuff, was once Amazon’s #1 selling children’s title. Disney Hyperion published my novel, The Drake Equation, in 2016, and Sourcebooks will publish a book of my funny poetry in 2017.

In 2016 and 2013, I was the keynote speaker at the Oregon Writers Festival. For this event, over 500 handpicked students from grades 4-12 travel from all over the state to Portland for a day of workshops and presentations.

I also do regular school presentations, and write articles and educational content, specifically K-12 ELA assessment content. My specialties include developing passages of all genres aligned to both the Common Core State Standards and individual state standards. I have written passages for ACT, GED, SBAC, and PARCC, among others.
